How to Learn From Your Competitors Facebook Ads

Facebook ads are an excellent way to drive targeted traffic to your business website or offer but they can be difficult to master. If you don’t know how to target your customers and design effective ads, you’ll end up losing money.

If you’re not running Facebook ads for your business, learn how to get started with Facebook marketing.

Once you have some ads running, you’ll want to continue tweaking them to get the most out of them. A great way to learn what works and what doesn’t is to see what your competitors do. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to find out a few details of competitive ads.

Search the Facebook Ad Library

The first thing you can do is go to the Facebook Ad Library to check up on your competitors, if there is any data available. Just input an advertiser’s name and it will show any ads that they are currently running.

From there, use that information to see what types of graphics, headlines, and offers may be working for them. Don’t copy them exactly, but you’ll be able to get a sense of what may be working for other companies.

It is worth noting that just because they are running an ad, it doesn’t mean that it is profitable. Always do your own research and testing before scaling up your ad spend.

Learn from Competitors

Another way to learn from your competitor’s ads is to check them out in your own Facebook timeline. If competitors are using a Facebook retargeting pixel, visit their website and then you’ll see their ads show up on Facebook. Or just scroll until you see an ad in your feed.

From there, you can check out the details of the ad.

  1. In the top right corner of the ad, click the icon.
  2. From the drop down menu, select Why am I seeing this ad?
  3. This will show additional targeting information about the ad.

The same information can also be accessed for the sidebar ads by hovering over the top right corner of the ad.

As we can see in this example, this ad was targeted to male English speakers over 30 years old in the United States. You can then click through the ad itself to take note of the ad copy, graphics, landing page, and offer.

Use this information to formulate a base version for your own advertisements and then tweak different areas to see how to make it perform better.
